Sid KAPLAN / NEW YORK CITY 1950'
From 3 July to 5 September 2009
Sid Kaplan was born in The Bronx in 1938. Ten years later, seeing a piece of white paper slipped into a tray of chemistry transform into a black and white photo, he had a classic “aha” moment. That child’s vision led him to vocational education at The School of Industrial Arts in New York City, and the photo scene of The New York School photographers: The Village Camera Club, The Limelight Café. After a variety of lab jobs where he mastered printing, he was hired by Compo, a premiere lab in 1950’s New York.
